How to Avoid Becoming Overwhelmed as a Caregiver
Dec 11, 2024It’s not uncommon to feel overwhelmed as a caregiver because the moment you think you have everything under control, something happens, and you are faced with a new problem. So how do you avoid feeling overburdened and defeated?
When you feel like your mind is being taken over by a jumble of worries, give yourself a little time to become calm. Try to reflect on the most upsetting issues objectively.
Once you name the problems, divide them into two categories and write them down:
- Problems that can be fixed.
- Problems that have no solutions.
If the problems you identified have solutions, make a plan, and then put the plan into action.
If you are dealing with a situation over which you have no power, influence, or control, you have two choices:
- You can obsess over it and let it keep you awake at night.
- You can release your emotional attachment to it.
Thought for the Day
"I will not allow circumstances to overwhelm me. I will identify solutions for the problems that can be fixed and release my emotional attachment to the problems that have no solutions."
